The L-series is Canon's flagship professional lens range, designed to include outstanding image performance, ultimate operability and weather resistance. The EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM offers a lightweight alternative to the renowned EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM. offers the highest possible optical quality with no change in aperture over the full focal range of the lens. This allows photographers to set exposure at the widest aperture and zoom all the way through to 105mm without having to vary the shutter speed. Image Stabilizer (IS) dramatically reduces image blur caused by camera shake. Gyro sensors detect unwanted vibrations, triggering the corresponding movement of a correcting lens group perpendicular to the optical axis. This alters the light path, returning the image to its correct position on the sensor or film plane. The 3 stop advantage means that photographers normally shooting a 105mm lens handheld at 1/125 sec can obtain a shake free result with a shutter speed as low as 1/15 sec, for vastly extended options in low light conditions. The ring-type USM motor found in the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM employs ultra-sonic frequency vibrations to drive auto focus with unrivalled speed and near-silent operation. A powerful CPU and improved AF algorithm contribute to speed performance. Good holding torque stops the lens with precision and accuracy, the instant it arrives at the correct focus point and without overshoot. Photographers can choose manual focus instantly and at any time simply by moving the manual focus ring without first having to switch out of auto focus mode. I have taken over 1000 pictures with Canon 24-105 L lens and I must say, it a great product and takes very clear pictures with excellent quality in colors.
I have to add that, purchasing my Canon XSI and 24-105mm L lens from Amazon was truely a simple but pleasurable experience.

Compre este lente para reemplazar a mi 28-135 IS co el cual siempre obtuve buenas fotografias. El 24-105 L IS esta magnificamente construido pero no es lo suficientemente Sharp..., sera mi copia ? Lo he probado en mis dos camaras : 40D y XSi. Siempre necesita trabajo en mi Lightroom. Lo mismo me ocurre con el 17-40L pero en menor medida. Mi proxima compra sera el 135 L f2, espero que sea el lente Sharp que busco..!

This is my first L series purchase and the build quality is exactly what everyone is saying, its built like a tank. Not to waste anyones time but this review is not for someone who wants to know all about the technical details, you can read all about that at the canon website and many others. In short the lens is great and worth the money in my opinion! It's super fast and has a very SOLID feel to it. It fits like a glove on a canon 30D and similar bodies. It does search a bit in low light, but i rarely shoot indoors, you have to expect that from any lens with f/4. In that case just bump up the ISO and use the terrific IS and you will produce fantastic indoor images. You can take great pictures with this lens IF you know how to use your camera settings. It pairs very well with a wide angle lens such as the Sigma 10-20. I found it somewhat difficult at first using this lens on a cropped body. After using the sigma for almost six months it took some getting use to the new view on a cropped sensor 38mm-168mm. I am a landscape photographer at heart, but i felt that if i wanted to be a well rounded photographer i needed to venture out and explore other subjects and i believe that i picked the right lens to do that. As everyone else has mentioned, it is a great travel/general lens and i found the extra zoom on my cropped body to come in handy. I would highly reccommend this lens to you, but more importantly i would make sure that you understood how to use your camera first (using aperture, shutter speeds, exposure compensation, etc). There's no point in buying a Ferrari if you can't drive a stick.

After doing much research on various websites and message forums, I've come to the conclusion that the 24-105 L is the perfect walk around by Canon. Although I was cautious by the weight, it is suprisingly comfortable to carry. I've spent a few days out with the camera on me hours at a time and had no weight issues. Very awesome lens! Very sharp and worth every penny!

This is a great lens for many different uses. It is sharp, focuses fast and accurately. I'd love to have this range with a 2.8. I have the tamron 28-75 and I think the Canon is better in every way.
